Itinerary

Your 10-day journey

Arrive in Colombo on the scheduled program arrival day and meet the team for a welcome dinner and program briefing. A chance to settle in, get to know the group and prepare for the journey ahead.
An early start and a drive by private air-conditioned vehicle to Sigiriya, the UNESCO-listed rock fortress, with the option to visit the nearby Dambulla Cave Temple instead of the climb. Rejoin the group for an afternoon jeep safari in Minneriya National Park in search of wild elephants, then continue to Batticaloa and your waterfront accommodation.
Spend four mornings in a local K–8 school, observing, assisting and co-teaching alongside Sri Lankan educators, with time to exchange practice and build professional connections. Afternoons remain free to explore Batticaloa — its beaches, lagoon and historic sites.
As a team, plan and deliver a full day of professional development for local teachers, drawing on the group’s combined experience and the needs of the local school community. Afterwards, leave Batticaloa and travel south to the coastal town of Arugam Bay.
A slower day in a laid-back beach town. Learn to surf, take a boat tour through the surrounding lagoons, or simply relax by the pool or on the sand. Your Team Leader can help arrange any of the optional activities available locally.
Depart Arugam Bay for Sri Lanka’s hill country and the town of Ella. Visit the Nine Arch Bridge and ride one of the world’s most scenic train journeys through tea plantations and mountain landscapes, before continuing by private vehicle to Colombo for a final evening together.
A final breakfast with the group before checking out. Airport transfers to Colombo are included on the scheduled program departure date. Participants joining the optional Yala extension continue their journey separately as outlined in the extension itinerary.
