The Program 



WHAT IS GLOBAL TEACHER?

Global Teacher is a professional development program that facilitates collaborative learning experiences between team members and local teachers. By participating, you have the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally through intercultural engagement. At the same time, you'll play a significant role in enhancing education in your chosen destination.
Our programs are designed to provide a structured yet flexible approach. While we have a proven effective model, we also value individual expertise and adaptability to meet the unique needs of our local partners and schools.
The application process is straightforward, with a detailed questionnaire to help match you with suitable placements. We'll schedule an online meeting to explain program details and answer any questions. Once your placement is confirmed, you'll receive a welcome pack tailored to your destination, including a country-specific handbook and pre-departure training materials. You'll have two team meetings before the program starts, and the program itinerary typically follows a standard model, with any deviations clearly communicated during the initial meeting. Our aim is to provide a seamless experience so you can focus on teaching, learning, and exploration.

Below is a general itinerary for our program:

Day 1 - Arrival Day:
  • The team gathers at the accommodation.
  • Time to settle in and unwind, preparing for the days ahead.

Days 2-6 - 5-Day School Placement:
  • Team leader organizes teachers into smaller groups.
  • Each group is assigned to a different school within the same district.
  • You'll work alongside local teachers aligned with your preferred subject and age group.
  • School days typically run from 8 am to midday, with some variation by location.
  • Afternoons are free for exploration and local activities.
  • Evening meetings for team debriefing, reflection, and dinner.
  • Comprehensive support ensures your safety and comfort.

Day 7 - Professional Development Workshop:
  • Team members collaborate to prepare workshops for local teachers.
  • Groups of two or more design and present a 1-hour workshop on chosen teaching strategies.
  • Your teaching experience and time in local schools help inform workshop design.
  • Flexibility and support are provided throughout the process.

Days 8-9 - Excursion Days:
  • Explore and immerse yourself in the local culture and beauty.
  • Excursions vary by location, offering enlightening and unforgettable adventures.
  • Shared experiences with team members enhance the journey.

Day 10 - Departure Day:
  • A final day to relax with the team before departure.
  • Option to extend your stay if desired.

Post-program, you can maintain communication with the visited schools, local teachers, and program team members. Please note that each destination has unique characteristics, including remoteness, accommodation, transportation, and excursions. We recommend thoroughly exploring our diverse range of destinations, as each program can offer unique experiences. Once you've identified a program that aligns with your preferred location and dates, please proceed with your application by following the provided link.
 
After you receive confirmation that your application has been accepted, we encourage you to schedule a chat with one of our team members. This discussion will provide an opportunity to delve deeper into the program details, address any questions or concerns you may have, and ensure you have a comprehensive understanding of what to expect during your participation.
Following the online chat with our team member, you will receive a placement offer that provides a detailed breakdown of the program's cost and inclusions. This document will offer a clear overview of what is covered by the program fees. Reviewing the placement offer will help you make an informed decision and ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the financial aspects of your chosen program.
Your placement in the program will be officially confirmed upon receipt of your deposit. Once this step is completed, your Team Leader will initiate contact with you and provide you with your welcome pack. This welcome pack will contain essential information and resources to help you prepare for your upcoming adventure and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
 

Placement Confirmed? What's Next?

Before your departure, we provide pre-departure training to ensure you're well-prepared for the program:
  1. Welcome Pack: Upon confirmation, you'll receive a welcome pack containing a country-specific handbook and a pre-departure training booklet.
  2. Team Introduction: You'll be introduced to your program team, offering an opportunity to discuss the program and ask any questions you may have.
  3. Online Group Sessions: We'll have two group online sessions to further collaborate and prepare for the program in detail. These sessions are designed to make you feel comfortable with the program, and there's no extensive preparation required on your part.
Our aim is to equip you with the knowledge and confidence you need for a successful and fulfilling experience.

Presenting the Professional Development (PD) Workshop is a collaborative effort:
  1. Team Collaboration: Your team will come together to identify the specific needs of the local teaching community.
  2. Small Group Work: In smaller groups, you will collaborate closely to design and deliver a tailored professional development session for local teachers.
  3. Resources and Preparation: The program provides both time and resources to assist in your preparation.
  4. Guidance and Support: Afternoon briefings and team meetings will be held to ensure that everyone is well-prepared and comfortable in taking on a leadership role during the presentation to local teachers.
This collaborative approach ensures that the PD Workshop is thoughtfully designed to address the specific needs of the local educators, and that each team member is equipped to contribute effectively to the presentation.

​During your 5-day placement, you will be paired with a school and a local teacher. Your experience will closely align with the local teacher's timetable, and you'll attend their classes together. This placement offers a variety of professional interaction methods:
  1. Observations: You will have the opportunity to observe the local teacher's classroom practices and teaching techniques.
  2. Modeling: You can also demonstrate your own professional practices, sharing your expertise and approaches.
  3. Team Teaching: Collaboration is encouraged through team teaching, allowing you to work together with the local teacher to instruct the students.
Outside of class time, you will engage in professional discussions and reflections whenever possible. Throughout this journey, you will receive support from a dedicated team leader and our local partners. While you'll have access to all the necessary support, the placement itself is flexible, allowing you to engage with the local teacher at a comfort level that suits you best.

Our excursions are designed to offer enriching cultural experiences:
  1. Post-Workshop Exploration: Following the workshop, you'll enjoy two days of excursions aimed at immersing you in the local culture and traditions, providing deeper insights into the community you've been working with.
  2. Scenic Wonders: These two days are filled with visits to stunning locations and unforgettable experiences, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of the region.
  3. Cost Coverage: All associated entry fees and costs for these excursion days are included in the program cost, so you can fully enjoy the experience.
  4. Long-lasting Memories: Your participation in these excursions will leave you with lifelong memories and lasting friendships, fostering ongoing collaboration and a positive impact on education even after the program concludes.
